This is a report of The Rotary Foundation activities of the Rotary Club of Athens for 2006-07.

President Sheila Mark has set a goal of $10,000 for annual giving to the Rotary Foundation this year.  At the end of April, $12850 has been contributed to annual giving by club members.  This includes $7500 from Ram Gawande and an additional contribution from Ernst Breitenberger who will match their recognition points up to $500 for club members wishing to become Paul Harris Fellows.

Overall Athens (club #3664) has 151 Paul Harris Fellows, 4 Benefactors and All-time Giving of $231,792.86.  Six new Multiple PHF were recognized at previous club meetings this year.

In addition this year special support of $500 will be given to the District Project-Operation We Care Medical Mission to the Philippines .  Dr. Mel Simone has spoken to the club in the past and we try to support the project on an annual basis.

President Sheila had also made a commitment to Polio Plus this year.  We wanted to reach the goal that was set by our club and there was a balance of $11,820 on January 2005 per Rotary International.  As of April 30, 2007 , the balance has been reduced to $3213.01 and the Friends of India/Athens Rotary Club May 5 Dinner-Fundraiser is designated to Polio Plus.  The club has met this commitment with the fundraiser.

Several strategies to encourage Every Rotarian Every Year giving by club members were used this year.  District Foundation Chair, Brent Rosenthal, spoke to the club in November.  A program by a returning Ambassadorial Scholar was held.  The club website has a foundation section, email reminders are used in Foundation Month, and the quarterly member bills includes a reminder to include a donation.

Yours in Rotary,

Diane McVey
