This is a report of The Rotary Foundation activities of the Rotary Club of Athens.

President Scott Malcom set a goal of $14,300 for annual giving to the Rotary Foundation this year.  At the end of February, $5450 (38%)had been contributed to annual giving by club members. However, by July the goal was met. Restricted giving of  $9056 as well as $1100 for the permanent fund ($1000 from Bill and Mary Diles to become a Benefactor) has also been credited to the club.  Recognition points from Ram Gawande and Ernst Breitenberger matched new contributions up to $500 for club members wishing to become new Paul Harris Fellows.

Overall Athens Rotary (club #3664) has 163 Paul Harris Fellows, 5 Benefactors and All-time Giving of $307,138.71.  Three new PHF have been added this year and several Multiple PHF members were recognized at club meetings this year.

A club in India and District 3030 has asked the Athens Rotary Club to be a partner for a Matching Grant project here in southeast Ohio .  An application is submitted to fund textbooks for the Trimble School District as a literacy project with major funding from India , District 6690 and the Matching Grant from TRF.

Past President Sheila Mark made a commitment to Polio Plus last year.  The Club reached the goal set by our club to retire a balance of $11,820 (January 2005 per Rotary International).  As of April 30, 2007 , the balance had been reduced to $3213.01 and the Friends of India/Athens Rotary Club May 5 Dinner-Fundraiser was designated to Polio Plus and finished the balance.  James Stevens, past member/moved, gave an inspirational program on how polio affected his life and led the committee to accomplish the goal.  With a $100 million grant from the Gates Foundation as a challenge for RI to match, it is expected that next Rotary year Rotary clubs will be setting new goals to contribute to polio eradication in the world.

Several strategies to encourage Every Rotarian Every Year giving by club members is used each year.  International Service Chair, Gary Vaughn, spoke to the club in November about water well projects in Honduras and in District #6690 funded through TRF Matching Grants.  The club website has a foundation section, email reminders are used in Foundation Month, and member bills include a reminder to include a donation.
