International Students are having a difficult time this summer in Athens because of the pandemic.  The Athens Rotary Club has joined other individuals, institutions, and charity organization in Athens, to help out.  Rotarians Betsy Baringer, Diane McVey, and Pres. Sheila Mark and her husband Max Mark joined a food drive on Monday Jun. 22 from 4 to 6pm, donning masks and greeting the donors in the OU INN parking lot (across the street from the OU INN).  Pres. Sheila reported that there was a "wonderful turn-out.   Thanks so much to everyone who came by and sent food and personal care items, as well as money.  We filled 2 vehicles and collected about $900.  Everyone thanked us for being there and it felt so good to know we are part of such a generous community that rallies around our students in such a difficult time, difficult for us all."
There are plans to repeat the event several times during this summer at specific times to be announced.  Interested person's can donate money by sending a check made out to The Athens Rotary Foundation with memo: OU International Student Emergency Relief  Fund (abbreviated by simply: OUISER Fund).  Send the check to our Treasurer:

Update July 14, 2020 (info obtained from Pres. Sheila Mark):
Thanks to our members and members of the Athens community, we have collected $4,150.00 for the O.U. International Student Emergency Relief Fund (OUISER Fund). The Athens Rotary Foundation is adding $5,850.00 for a total donation of $10,000 to the OUISER Fund.  The Athens Rotary Foundation also purchased $1,000 in gift cards from each of 3 locally owned grocery stores: Seaman’s, Kindred Market, and The Farmacy. These gift cards will be distributed to the international students by The Cats’s Cupboard food pantry.  Our food drive on Jun 22 filled two vehicles with food and personal care items which are also to be distributed by the Cats’ Cupboard.
Two more food drives are planned.  They will be held on July 27 and August 10 both will be from 4 - 6 pm in the parking lot across from the OU Inn.
