As you know, many of the international students at Ohio University are having a very hard time because of the pandemic.  Flights have been canceled, so they cannot go home.  Campus has been closed, so they don't have their jobs or internships, at least for the summer.  They are left without income, no money to pay their rent or buy food.  Of course some of them have wealthy parents or other means of support, but about 200 out of the 900 international students are in dire straights.  Their average rent is about $600 per month and it is estimated that about $500,000 is needed to get all of them through the summer.  A coalition has been formed to help them and it will take everyone working together.

The Athens Rotary Foundation can donate to The International Student Emergency Relief Fund, as the students live in Athens County.  We are having a meeting early next week to determine the amount we should donate.

In the mean time, the Athens Rotary Club is having a food drive on Monday, June 22, 2020 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM.  We will meet in the parking lot across the street from the OU Inn.  Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.  Sheila and Betsy will open the back hatch of their cars.  Donors can place nonperishable food in our cars and we will deliver it to The Cat's Cupboard on Tuesday morning in time for distribution at 10 AM.  Last week about 75 students came for food.  The Cat's Cupboard cannot take any refrigerated food, so we plan to buy gift cards so that the students can buy meat or other items they need.  They also need personal care items such as deodorant and feminine hygiene products.   If you'd rather donate money,  please bring a check made out to The Athens Rotary Foundation or mail it to
